When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Samir Becic: I smile.

TG: What gives you energy?
SB: In addition to my healthy lifestyle, I am curious to see what the future holds for humanity.

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
SB: I nourish the child in me with positivity, playfulness, and hope.

TG: Name a book that changed your life.
SB
: The Art of War. It’s helpful in my quest against obesity and unhealthy lifestyle.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
SB: It sleeps next to me because I use it as an alarm. Society, in general, is too addicted to smartphones. I prefer a balance between technology and in-person interactions.

TG: How do you deal with email?
SB: Responsibly and to the point.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
SB: Read.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out and why?
SB: I came close to feeling burned out when I became a first-time father, but not even close to how difficult my wife Dijana had it. However, the love that I feel for my son Ares Max re-energized and motivated me. Also, working out minimizes the burn out effect and speeds up recovery.

TG: When was the last time you felt you failed and how did you overcome it?
SB: Failure is not an option, never ever give up on your dreams.

TG: Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
SB: “Veni, Vidi, Vici.”
