Finding Your Purpose - Adri Kyser

Whether you believe that you are the commander of your own destiny or you that you don’t have control of what your future brings… We can all agree that we are here for a reason.

We all have a purpose in life; something that we are meant or called to do.

We all have special gift or talent, that special something that, when we share it with others, can make a world of difference.

What is Dharma?

In the spiritual and yoga communities you hear people talk about Dharma all of the time.

Dharma can be translated as the path of righteousness — doing what is good for the self, the family and the Universe. It is any personal obligation; duty or calling that brings you closer to the Divine – God – Spirit.

It is the “Law of Being,” deeply rooted in compassion, supporting our happiness and contentment.

Following Your Calling

Your calling can be anything that brings out your gifts in order to serve and help others in the highest and best ways possible.

For some, their calling is to inspire others, for others to lead, for some to create art, for others to heal or be the best parent they can be.

Regardless of your specific calling, when you perform this action you can make a difference for the greater good of everyone involved.

In the Bhagavad Gita, one of India’s most respected and loved ancient scriptures, Krishna, tells Arjuna, how it is better to do your own Dharma poorly than to do someone else’s well.

You may wonder how this applies to you.

Have you ever been stressed, overwhelmed and even ill due to doing something you did not want to do, or did not feel right for you?

Why is it that sometimes what used to work for you and make you happy in the past no longer works?

Often people stay in undesirable situations, just moving through the motions, because they are afraid to let go of the known and trade it for the unknown.

When you are not doing what you are meant to do, when you are not exploring and sharing your gift with others, you may feel empty and dissatisfied with your life.

This can lead to stress, illness, heartbreak, and even a life crisis.

Re-discovering Your Purpose

I say re-discover because somewhere along the journey many forget their mission, their Why, their calling and begin to question their gifts, talents, and uniqueness.

They spend their days doing what I expected of them, what it’s safe, what it’s known. They are looking for answers on how to bring life, excitement, passion, fulfillment back into their lives…

They look for more external things thinking it will help them get what they are looking for…

Maybe you have felt this way too?

Where and How To Start

The truth is that you must start by going within. Only you know what your Dharma is; no one else can give you that answer.

  • Quiet your mind – Start a Meditation practice, go for a walk, spend time in nature, find ways to unplug for your busy life… Even for just 5 minutes.
  • Ask yourself questions like, “Why am I here? What is my life purpose? If I have time, money, and energy what would I love to do?”  You may be surprised by the answers your intuition and inner wisdom gives you.
  • Start a Journal practice – write down your thoughts and emotions on a regular basis. This can be really helpful in providing you the insight you need.
  • Take action – nothing can change unless you do your part.

You probably have witnessed others turning their life 180 degrees, now living happy and filling life.

What are you waiting for?

Go and become the commander of your own destiny. Live the life of goodness and happiness you deserve.

Our birthright is to live a loving, peaceful and happy life, so we can serve and share our gift with others and be closer to and unite with the Divine.
