I listen to podcasts ALL the time… I find them inspirational, educational and I can fit them into my life — walking the dog, going for a run or driving in the car in between meetings and picking up the kids. I have abandoned the car radio in favour of educating myself on the school run.

Today I was listening to EOFire.com — a daily podcast with John Lee Dumas which is all about entrepreneurship. The interviewee is described as ‘the keepin’ it real guru’ and I loved everything about her — the passion, the enthusiasm and the va-va-voom!

Her name is Vasavi Kumar and the one take away piece of advice I got from her podcast was that everyone has ideas, dreams, plans, but they are nothing unless you actually TAKE THE FIRST STEP! (you can listen to this episode here)

Vasavi said she mentors a lot of people, and gets a lot of requests to be mentored — but she is not interested in working with anyone who doesn’t actually take any action. I am sure you all know someone who talks about their big plans, draws out detailed maps on how to get there, but actually doesn’t do anything about them.

The people I work with who get the most success, are the ones who not only listen to the advice and experience that I have crafted over the years, but then put the tips, advice and training into action.

My goal for the next year is to help people who are running scared of social media for business.

I aim to make the complicated, uncomplicated.

To straighten out the steps you need to take to get a return on investment from putting some effort into your online marketing. My aim is to help business owners and entrepreneurs understand how to get the most from using online marketing. No more stress, or complicated instructions. Just simple, straightforward explanations, one step at a time.

Every week in our online community on Facebook, I introduce a new tool (usually free) that can help — whether its for creating images, scheduling posts, or simply managing tasks. There is a lot of information out there if you know where to find it. The aim of my group is to provide support for entrepreneurs — there are no ‘stupid questions’ — we have built up a community around helping each other out. Spammers are dealt with politely but firmly.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.

Having a strategic planned approach to online marketing doesn’t have to take up half of your working week either. It’s all about learning what, where, when and why you are on these platforms in the first place.

The people I meet at networking events are confident at what they do on the day to day, but maybe they just haven’t learned how to use social media to market their business. Spending some time learning how to tweet for example, or how to engage on LinkedIn, can result in some brilliant returns, in the form of new connections, new clients, and new business.

If you want to start learning how to use online marketing for your business, I have a free guide on the seven steps you can start taking today, to get yourself online. I would love to hear from you if you are struggling to get to grips with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, email marketing and more. Please drop me a line at [email protected]. I look forward to a great year, one step at a time.
