Brian Grazer: ‘Writing Notes of Gratitude Always Strengthens Me’

The film and TV producer and his wife, Veronica, a marketing executive, on emails, burnout and life hacks.

When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?Veronica Smiley Grazer: Drink a shot of apple cider vinegar.
Brian Grazer:
Put the blackouts up!

TG: What gives you energy?
VSG: A great idea.
Meeting interesting people who are expert or passionate in something other than what I do…

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
VSG: Remembering that God has a plan for me that’s greater than anything I could ever come up with.
Exercising my curiosity across all aspects of my life!

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?VSG: Not with me, but next to me… Am working on that!
An information and learning enabler.

TG: How do you deal with email?
VSG: Try to use “unsubscribe” as often as possible, other than my daily Bible blast!
I may miss a few, but that’s ok.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?VSG: TM (transcendental meditation). To me, meditation is the single most powerful thing we can do for our inner being and physical selves.
Zone out by listening to music.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out?
VSG: As chief marketing officer of SBE, when we launched the SLS Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas with a shoestring budget. I knew then it was time to find something more purposeful and fulfilling!
Can’t remember! That’s good, right?!

TG: Share a quote that gives you strength when times are tough.
VSG: May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
Writing notes of gratitude always strengthens me.
